Do You Require a Mouth Guard?
If you clench or grind your teeth, or play ball or contact sports, contact Kaplan Dental Clinic about the dental appliance options available to you.
Mouth Guards
Mouth guards, also called sports guards are vitally important devices that are worn to protect your teeth from damage from falls, body contact, and balls.
There are many different activities for which a mouth guard should be worn - hockey and football are just some of these activities.
A mouthguard will protect against broken teeth, cut lips and other damage to the mouth that can be sustained from physical activity. Mouth guards can either be store bought or custom fit by your dentist.
The following are some benefits to having your mouth custom fit to the unique shape of your mouth.
- More comfortable
- Fit better
- Maximum protection
- Correct size
- Longer lasting
Bite Guards
Bite Guards are devices that are used to prevent the dental problems and damage associated with tooth grinding, clenching.
Bite guards are also commonly recommended to patients to have TMJ and experience tension headaches and tooth and jaw pain.
If you clench or grind your teeth, your dentist will likely recommend a bite guard or night guard to protect your teeth from wear and tear.
Getting Fitted For Your Mouth Guard
At Kaplan Dental Clinic in Toronto, when we custom make a bite guard or bite guard, the first step involves taking a mould and dental image of the patient’s teeth.
The mould of your teeth is used to make a guard that fits snugly with the shape of your mouth.
Once the mould of your mouth has been taken, you will usually have to make a second appointment to return for the guard and to make sure that it comfortably fits in your mouth.
